Energy Efficient Lighting You Can Use at Your Gainesville Apartment
If you’ve never considered using energy efficient lighting solutions in your Bellamay Grand apartment home, now may be the time to start. With traditional incandescent bulbs being gradually phased out, many people are beginning to realize the many benefits of using energy efficient lights in their homes. These bulbs consume far less electricity than traditional incandescent bulbs, and typically have much longer useful lifetimes. This means that you’ll not only save money on your monthly energy bills, but you’ll help the environment as well, reducing your carbon footprint by consuming less energy from the power plant.
When choosing energy efficient bulbs for your Gainesville apartment, there are two primary types that you can choose from:
- CFLs – Compact fluorescent lamps, or CFLs, are fluorescent lights wrapped in a tight spiral resembling the size and shape of an incandescent bulb. They work by passing electricity through argon gas and mercury vapor, which creates UV rays that excite the chemical layer on the inside of the lamp, producing light. What that means in practical terms is that CFLs can last anywhere from 8 to 15 times longer than an incandescent light and consume 30 percent less electricity. While incandescent bulbs are typically much more expensive up front, costing between $4 to $8 a bulb, they soon pay for themselves with their energy savings and longer lifespan.
- LED Lamps – LED lamps are the latest in energy efficient lighting, and while they are newer and more expensive, they are undoubtedly the most energy efficient lighting solutions available. They are relatively expensive, ranging anywhere from $15 to $50 a bulb, but the best LED lamps last up to 30 times longer than incandescent bulbs, and consume only 15% of their electrical energy. While these incredible numbers mean that they would soon pay for themselves, LED bulbs are still a new technology and vary widely in quality, hence the wide range of prices. While LEDs may be the best solution in the long run, many consumers who want to improve their energy efficiency may find it easier to switch to CFLs and use LEDs on a more limited basis.
Regardless of which type you choose, either of these remarkable lighting solutions will help you save money while going green.
