The Butterfly Rainforest is an exhibit where visitors can come face-to-face with exotic, free-flying butterflies. Visitors can explore the exhibit by walking around the tropical foliage and flowers, listening to the calming sound of waterfalls. The exhibit, which is a sprawling 6,400 square feet, features butterfly feeding stations where visitors can watch these beautiful creatures feast on fresh cut fruit. In addition, the Butterfly Rainforest also hosts live butterfly releases on a daily basis at a specific time, weather permitting.
Here are some facts to know about butterflies and the Butterfly Rainforest:
- It is a screened exhibit that is exposed to the Florida climate, which means the environment in the rainforest is more authentic.
- The butterflies in the exhibit typically live two to five weeks on average.
- More than 1,000 butterflies can be seen in the exhibit.
- A tropical butterfly will begin flying when the air temperature reaches 60 degrees.
- At any given time, this exhibit contains 60 to 80 species of butterflies and moths.
