Preparing for a Massage When Living at Our Apartments in Gainesville, FL
The practice of massage involves the manipulation of both superficial and deep layers of muscle and connective tissue using various techniques. Massages can help to expedite the healing process for an injury, soothe headaches and nerve pain, and provide stress and anxiety relief. As such, there are many different types of massages that range from simple relaxation massage to the more involved deep tissue massage.
If you have never had a massage before, here is a list of helpful tips when preparing for the first appointment:
- Be timely. Arrive at least 15 minutes before the appointment to allow enough time to fill out all necessary paperwork.
- Feel free to request a specific therapist. It’s perfectly fine to state a preference for a male or female massage therapist and/or one with a specific type of experience.
- Prepare for the appointment. Make sure to take a shower beforehand and leave jewelry and/or perfume at home.
- Be vocal. Massage patients should feel comfortable speaking up if any part of the massage is uncomfortable. This could mean that the music is too loud, the temperature of the room is too hot or too cold, or the pressure the therapist is giving is too hard or not hard enough.
After the appointment, be sure to drink plenty of water, as it is said this will help flush out any toxins that were loosened up in the body during the massage. For those who had a more involved type of massage, such as a sports or deep tissue massage, it’s normal to feel soreness for up to two days after the appointment. Take an Epsom salt bath and ice any areas that feel sore, if necessary.
