- Shop toward the end of the day – Since feet swell throughout the day, shopping at the end of the day is better in order to get a pair of shoes in the most accurate size.
- Understand arch type – This is important because a person’s foot can have a flat arch, a neutral arch, or a high arch, and certain shoes are better suited for these arch styles. Shoppers can easily find out their arch type by wetting the bottom of their foot and stepping on a piece of paper. For a flat arch, most of the foot will be visible. For a neutral arch, about half of the foot will be visible. And, for a high arch, the middle part of the footprint will be missing.
- Walk around the store in the shoes before making a final purchase – No matter how nice the shoes may look, if they are not comfortable to walk in, then they should be left on the shelf. Shoppers should walk around the shoe store with the new shoes on their feet to make sure they’re a comfortable fit.
