Learning About the History of Blues at Your Gainesville Apartment
There are few music styles that can claim to be more quintessentially American than blues. The roots of blues music can be traced back to spirituals and funeral songs that were sung in the southeastern United States in the mid-1850s. By the time the early 1900s rolled around, blues had evolved, being influenced by both European music and jazz, another American music style that developed in the south along the Mississippi River Delta. With the addition of guitar to blues, the style known as the Delta Blues was born. While this style reached its heyday in the early to mid 1920s, it would go on to influence musicians throughout the 20th century and into the present day. In fact, blues music not only went on to develop into several offshoot styles, but directly influenced the birth of blues rock, and later, rock music as we know it today.
