Tying Bowties at our Rental Apartments in Gainesville, FL

If you’ve always had a flair for personalized fashion, you may want to add bowties to your formal or semi-formal wear. While bowties are the norm for tuxedos, they are also making a comeback in more casual settings, including at social gatherings or even at the office. They can be an expression of quirkiness or just a bit of silly fun, but no matter what some naysayers may say, always remember that bowties are cool.

However, knowing how to knot up a bowtie can be somewhat confusing at first, especially if you’ve never worn one before. Follow these steps to put on a bowtie:

    • Drape the unfastened bowtie around your neck and under your collar, leaving the right end about 1.5 to 2 inches lower than the end on your left.
    • Cross the longer (right) end over the shorter (left) end. Cross the tie near your neck so that the bowtie is high and not across your chest, but don’t tighten it too much just yet.
    • Pass the longer end up through the loop, forming a simple, loose overhand knot, much like a four in hand knot. Tighten the knot appropriately.
    • Then, pull the dangling end to the left and fold it back over itself to the right. Hold the fold in place up by your neck at a 90˚ angle, as it will form the front loop of the finished tie.
    • Drop the other end of the tie over the front of the fold, from the top down, making sure not to let go of the folded bow.
    • Pinch the folded bow with the dangling end in the front, forming a sort of sandwich, with the dangling free end positioned in the middle. The dangling free end will form the front center square of the bow.
    • Then, fold the middle of the dangling free end and feed the folded portion back through the knot you made earlier. It now forms the back half of the bow.
    • Tighten and adjust your bowtie by pulling on both sides simultaneously. Once your bowtie looks the way you want it to, you’ll be ready to go.

Now that you know how to tie a bowtie properly, you’ll be able to wear a one whenever you want. At Bellamay Grand Apartment Homes, you may even be able to attend or host events where you can wear a bowtie, such as small gatherings at an apartment home, or larger parties at our community clubhouse. “We just moved in about a month ago. We had maintenance in so many times trying to get things set up for my disabled son - but they never complained. The grounds are beautiful. The people in the office are always polite and helpful. Very happy here.”
