Making Potpourri at Your Apartment in Gainesville, FL
Potpourri is a mixture of dried flower petals and spices used to scent the air. It is a wonderful decorative accent that can be placed anywhere in your apartment, whether you want to set a jar in your bathroom, your living room, or your bedroom.
Potpourri has been around for centuries and is fairly easy to make. Here is what you’ll need to create your very own batch:
- Vanilla extract
- Nutmeg
- Whole cloves
- Cinnamon sticks
- Dried flower petals (optional)
- A glass jar
- A small, 4 inch by 4 inch breathable cloth (such as cheesecloth)
- Rubber band
- Ribbon (optional)
The process of making potpourri is fairly straightforward. The first step is to mix the vanilla, nutmeg, and cloves together in the bottom of the glass jar. Then, break up the cinnamon sticks to release their fragrance and place those inside the container. If you’ve opted to use dried flower petals, simply add those into the jar as well. Lastly, cover the jar with the breathable cloth, using the rubber band to hold it in place, and cut the corners of the cloth to fit more closely to the lid shape. If you’d like, you can tie a pretty ribbon around the lid to hide the rubber band and any frayed ends of the cloth. And as easy as that – you will have delicious-smelling potpourri to display in your apartment in Gainesville, Florida.
