Changing a Bike Tire in Your Gainesville Apartment
In addition to being an environmentally friendly way to get around town, biking is also a great exercise. However, if you use a bike regularly, flat tires are bound to become an issue from time to time. Changing a tire quickly and correctly will get you back on the road. To start, always be sure you have a spare tube that will fit your bike’s wheel, a set of tire tools, a portable air pump and any other tools you need to remove your wheel in a pack on your bike.
Then take the following steps:
- Remove your wheel from your bike and fully deflate the tube if it isn’t already.
- Place two tire tools a few inches apart under the wheel’s rim so the flat end hooks under the tire.
- Push both tire tools up simultaneously until the tire pops out of the rim.
- Hook one tire tool to the spokes, slide the other around the wheel underneath the tire to fully unseat it, and then remove both.
- Remove the old tube, and then feel around the tire to ensure nothing is still sticking through.
- Use the air pump to inflate the new tube to about a quarter of its capacity.
- Seat the tube inside the tire and wheel with the valve sticking through the hole provided.
- Hook the flat side of the tire tools to the wheel rim underneath the tire a few inches apart.
- Push down and run the tools around the wheel until the tire is fully seated.
- Inflate it to full pressure and reattach the wheel to the bike.
