Studying the Food Guide Pyramid in Our Apartments in Gainesville, Florida
In 1992, the United States Department of Agriculture released a revolutionary nutrition guide that has since become the standard for diet guides. It is called the food guide pyramid, and although this famous pyramid has experienced some revisions and was even replaced with “My Plate” in 2011, the pyramid still offers sensible advice about nutrition and serving sizes. The pyramid is divided into six different sections, all with separate recommendations of servings to consume daily. When living at Bellamay Grand, studying the food guide pyramid makes for an excellent way to spend an afternoon or evening in your spacious apartment, in our community clubhouse, or lounging by our gorgeous pool. After studying it, our residents may just find that they want to alter their eating habits a little.
According to the food guide pyramid, people should eat:
- Bread, cereal, rice, and pasta – 6-11 servings a day
- Vegetables – 3-5 servings a day
- Fruit – 2-4 servings a day
- Milk, yogurt, and cheese – 2-3 servings a day
- Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts – 2-3 servings a day
- Fats, oils, and sweets – 0-1 servings a day
Eating meals according to the food guide pyramid will help people to consume the daily recommended values for all different foods, and the guide has even proved useful in maintaining a healthy, stable weight.
